Mikel Arteta Admitted That He Has Not Handled Eddie Nketiah Fairly

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta acknowledged he hasn’t treated Eddie Nketiah well after striker’s brace in the Gunners’ massive 4-2 win over Chelsea on Wednesday..

Nketiah’s strikes at the Stamford Bridge helped Arsneal regain their top four credentials after a run of three straight losses and were level with Tottenham in fourth place on points.

They could leapfrog their competition on Saturday with a point or 3 against Manchester United just before Spurs head to Brentford a week later.

Since Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s exclusion along with subsequent departure to Barcelona, the senior option Alexandre Lacazette has been largely trusted up front, but the Frenchman’s troubles with illness saw Nketiah given the nod at Southampton and then at Chelsea.

His first Premier league goal of the season helped the Gunners to a shock victory over a terrible Chelsea and Arteta stated he had not been fair to Nketiah all through the season.

He gave me every right to do something different, of course , if Eddie does not play more, it is my fault because I missed something as a manager or I hadn’t the courage to play him much more. He showed me again how wrong I was today. ”

Nketiah is likely to be out of contract at the end of the season and has just reiterated his wish to play regular football.

He said: “I’m under contract till the end of the season, but my contract runs out,” he said. There have clearly been discussions and offers of a new contract but I am aiming at playing football regularly at the moment. That’s my ambition, and what I hope to achieve.

“I love Arsenal, but at the same time I’m at Arsenal.” I am just attempting to concentrate on the season a lot and ensure I finish that in a great way and then sit down and look at what I believe is the very best chance to take those measures and develop..
