The awful defensive performance against West Brom appeared to cause the beginning of the decline of the Frank Lampard – era at Chelsea..
Marcos Alonso was dismissed following a disastrous opening period at half time, however the fight did not stop there.
Lampard was discovered sulking at full time on the staff bus, and he did not take it very seriously. It brought about a fall out between the two that could have resulted in Alonso leaving had Lampard not been fired in January that year.
Football.London spoke with the left again and also obtained his aspect of the story:
“I viewed the game up the stairs and with 5 minutes to go they [West Brom security] told me I can’t be here so I went down the hall to the changing room. After the referee blew the whistle, I then went to the coach before the team returned.
“It wasn’t with bad intent that i desired to leave, but I’d actually soaked in a bath at half-time, I’d a bath upstairs after which I simply went.” I wasn’t satisfied, obviously, with the way the game went and all but it wasn’t any intent to do that..
“I talked with my team mates immediately after. If somebody was offended or something like that, everybody was fine. You’d developed the story, but it had been nothing like that. ”
After missing out on significant parts of Thomas Tuchel’s first season in charge, Alonso has since become a crucial component of the side, with Ben Chilwell out injured.
Chelsea fans won’t hold grudges against a player that frequently scores against Tottenham.
