Klopp played down fears about Fabinho’s fitness after the Liverpool man was forced off injured in the first half of Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa..
Just like Thiago or Mohamed Salah, the Brazilian international wasn’t given a rest for the game, but were off the pace before pulling up with apparent hamstring injuries within half an hour.
He needed to be replaced by Jordan Henderson and today Fabinho’s involvement is up in the air against Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup final.
Although additional tests will have to be performed to figure out the severity of the damage, Klopp revealed after the game that the 28-year-old does not believe his problem is anything overly significant.
Klopp said: “He felt like a muscle. not a lot. “He is very optimistic, but I am not certain what I can make of that.” We’ll see.
Before the game you had to make the decisions, nobody had any problems and you had to play somebody.
The boss even confirmed that left back Andy Robertson’s absence from the day – squad was solely down to rest and not associated with an injury, admitting that losing Fabinho at such an important time in the season might be a’big blow’.
The Reds are still on the hunt for the Premier League title, and will need to score at least 100 points from their remaining two games against Wolves and Southampton if they hope to topple Manchester City.
Moreover, Liverpool have the little issue of the Champions League final against Real Madrid on 28 May, and Klopp will be sweating all over Fabinho’s involvement until the results come back..
